Environmental assessment

Environmental certification schemes quantify the sustainability of the construction, operation and management of a building or neighbourhood by assessing environmental, economic and social aspects. The certifications are voluntary, and are based on an evaluation methodology of building sustainability, and a third-party certification.

The purpose is to ensure quality standards in the behavior of the building, in areas such as energy, water or comfort for the users. The environmental certification tools are developed for evaluating, measuring and sharing knowledge on the built environment.

Our professionals are accredited for evaluation with the leading environmental certification tools, VERDE, BREEAM and LEED. We perform preliminary studies to identify the most appropriate certification for each client and project, depending on their environmental and commercial goals. We advise developers and designers in the design phase to incorporate strategies that reduce the environmental impact of a new building or refurbishment.

         

VERDE ASSESSMENT

VERDE –GBCe’s Environmental Certificate -, acknowledges the reduction in environmental impact of the building, compared to a standard reference building. This building is a model conceived according to the minimum parameters established by law and common practice. VERDE entails the recognition by an independent organization – unrelated to the developer or designer – of the ecological values of a building by applying an internationally approved evaluating method.

We evaluate and certify buildings of any type with VERDE NE and VERDE RH tools (equipment, office, residential, single-family, residential refurbishment). We assist as well design teams to incorporate strategies that reduce the environmental impact of the building, improve overall energy efficiency and reduce operating costs (which also should improve the rating in VERDE). We conduct energy, lighting and sunlight simulation work for justification of criteria. 

BREEAM ASSESSMENT

BREEAM® (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is a method of evaluation and certification of building sustainability. A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building’s specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria from energy to ecology. They include aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes. 

We evaluate and certify buildings of any type (office, retail, industrial with BREEAM ES Comercial, other types with BREEAM ES A medida; residential with BREEAM ES Vivienda). We also assist design teams to incorporate strategies that reduce the environmental impact of the building, improve overall energy efficiency and reduce operating costs (which also should improve the rating in BREEAM). We conduct energy, lighting and sunlight simulation work for justification of requirements. 

LEED ASSESSMENT

LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a voluntary, consensus-based, market­-driven program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. Comprehensive and flexible, LEED addresses the entire lifecycle of a building. Participation in the voluntary LEED process demonstrates leadership, innovation, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. LEED provides building owners and operators the tools they need to immediately impact their building’s performance and bottom line, while providing healthy indoor spaces for a building’s occupants.

We evaluate and certify new buildings and refurbishment (New Construction and Major Renovations).  We also assist design teams to incorporate strategies that reduce the environmental impact of the building, improve overall energy efficiency and reduce operating costs (which also should improve the rating in LEED). We conduct energy, lighting and sunlight simulation work for justification of credits.
